The highlight of afternoon activities was a lecture given by Professor Christoph H. Loch. He served as former dean of the Cambridge Judge Business School (CJBS) prior to joining PHBS this fall, and is professor of operations and technology management at CJBS. With his rich experience in business innovation and project management, Professor Loch spoke on “Spending Your Innovation Money on Strengthening Your Business Rather than on Vanity Projects.”

In his lecture, Professor Loch pointed out: Innovation not only refers to technology, but also includes any new changes that help improve the competitiveness of enterprises. In terms of small-and-medium enterprises, most new technologies are purchased externally rather than developed internally. Instead of choosing an innovation project based solely on the rate of return, you should carefully analyze your own strategy and select innovation projects based on your own disadvantages so as to achieve strategic goals, because financial data can be easily tampered with or manipulated. If the selected innovation project belongs to a new field that needs to be explored, you should first create a small project to tap into its potential.
To improve alumni engagement, each program also held homecoming activities such as class reunions, alumni talks, and family day, during which participants shared their accomplishments as well as aspirations.

Since its establishment, PHBS has trained more than thousands of business leaders, entrepreneurs, and managers. With more than 30,000 alumni forming a diverse and extensive network among business schools worldwide, PHBS alumni have become leaders in business, academia, and public affairs, and made crucial contributions to school’s continued success. To enhance alumni ties, PHBS often hosts its annual homecoming every fall semester. In the future, the PHBS branch of PKU Alumni Association will continue to bring together alumni from all classes in lifelong conversation and mutual cooperation.
